Bypass “download” when accessing a share?
#1
Hi,

I don’t think that there’s a way around it, but I thought I’d ask anyway  Smile

I send share links to colleagues, often these are PDF documents. No password is set on the share.

When the share is accessed it presents a download screen. And when “download” is clicked (at least on an iPad or an iPhone), it shows the document in the browser (mobile Safari).
Why not show the document directly on the browser when the share is accessed without the need to click “download”. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance.

I think this is a browser function, not NAS.

Come to think of it, I believe you’re right.
I wish I can go straight to the PDF without the dload prompt.

There must be a way of doing it because FireFox does it for me with some PDF's.

This link http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/5/0300030545...ual_EN.pdf displays directly in FF.

It is also working on my iPad’s safari. Shows up without the dload prompt.
But I don’t think that’s hosted on a DS.

It must be something about the DS share that prompts the browser to display the dload page! I think.
Oh well. I guess I should live with it.

If this behavior can be easily replicated by someone else, or further testing, I would suggest submitting a ticket/feature improvement to Synology.

Then you'll have to host that PDF on a self-built HTTP server rather then drive. So you can then publish a link like https://nas.yourdomain.net/pdfs/file1.pdf . Any browser will then directly download it. You can host your own HTTP server on your NAS with the 'Web Station' package.

I use this method when I really need to. I also use it for example to post images on a forum post:

I believe you’re right Shadow. I keep forgetting that I’m dealing with a disk on a network Smile
Thanks for the suggestion, I might try it.
